First Lady Phyllis D. Gearring- Anderson
First Lady Phyllis D. Gearring- Anderson relocated on assignment with her husband Rev. Carey G Anderson from Wichita, Kansas 10 years ago to support him in ministry where he serves as senior pastor of the historic First AME Church, Seattle Washington. They are the proud parents of son Shomari Jones (Kimberly), daughters (Valerie and Vanessa), granddaughter (London) and grandson (Elisha).
Mrs. Anderson has a health care career span of greater than 35 years in which she has practiced as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) providing health care services across the lifespan (neonatology, pediatrics, adolescent health, family practice, urgent care, and geriatrics). She has developed and managed health clinics and medical centers in Chicago IL, Reno NV and Seattle, WA.
In addition to earning National ARNP certification in Family Practice and Adult Health, Mrs. Anderson is a Community Clinical Specialist (CNS). In this role she developed community health programs and provided health services to resident s of the Westside and Southside of Chicago and served as Director for Preventative Health Services for the Sedgwick County Health Department.
Mrs. Anderson has enjoyed teaching in post-secondary education institutions and held faculty positions at Chicago State University, the University of Nevada, and Triton Community College. While in Wichita, Mrs. Anderson developed and served as the Wichita State University hosted State Director for the US Department of Education Kansas Kids At GEAR UP (Gaining Early Access and Readiness to Undergraduate Programs); developing statewide educational enrichment programs with the goal of high school matriculation and preparation for post-secondary school entrance for limited income students and students in foster care.
